Heavy rain from Tropical Storm Grace hit the island of Haiti on Tuesday, days later Deadly earthquake ravages Caribbean nation. Saturday’s 7.2 magnitude tremor killed more than 1,000 people and left tens of thousands more homeless.
Days after the quake, bodies still lay in the streets as officials grapple with chaos and bad weather. Some hospitals are now structurally too unsafe after a disaster, forcing medical staff treating patients outside. Many others were too afraid to return to their homes, fearing another tremor would strike them.
As people sought possible shelter, often in makeshift tents, humanitarian workers distributed food and cared for the wounded. Save the Children has provided about 250 families with tarps, sheets and infant care kits, but aid group said The weather is exacerbating an already dire situation.
Carl-Henry Petit-Frère, a Save the Children field manager, said: “I see children crying in the street, people begging us for food, but we are also short of food.
