Things That Take Emotional Time: The Therapist Explains
Our emotions sometimes it can be difficult. While most of us think we have it all together, we often run into situations where we know we can’t rush through the emotional upheavals we feel. In such situations, it’s best to slow down and let time unravel the speed at which our emotions can get better and ultimately, make us feel better. Addressing this issue, Psychotherapist Emily H Sanders writes: “Despite our best efforts, there are some things that cannot be rushed. We can continue to be open and teachable so as not to get in the way of our healing process – but like it or not, many important things take time, besides reflection and effort. She further notes six things take time, although we wish they wouldn’t.

Healing: No matter how hard we try and work to heal the heartache we’ve experienced faster, it takes time and its own pace. Ultimately, in the right time and circumstances, we feel better, and our bodies and minds heal from the injury.
Learn to trust: we often make mistakes or wrong choices that affect the confidence and trust we have in ourselves. While we all deal with the same consequences, learning to let go and re-trust our own decisions can take time.
Break the family cycle: When we fall into dysfunctional cycles and are taught to believe they are right, it can take a lot of effort and time to heal, so that we don’t become toxin carriers. .
Sadness: Be it the loss of someone or a relationship, our minds and bodies can take time to accept. No matter how hard we try to distract ourselves from the pain of loss, it can come back often.
Give up unhealthy relationships: Unhealthy relationships can be extremely manipulative in nature. Leaving them and starting life again without the shadow of poison takes time.
Make a change: Be it incorporating a healthy habit or changing our lifestyle, making positive changes to our lives can also take time.
