Tiffin bomb suspect kills 7-year-old in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, second death in a week
Patna:
Two people – one of them a seven-year-old boy – were killed in a series of explosions in the Bhagalpur area of Bihar over the span of a week. The explosions have caused tension in a sensitive area of the community. So far, no one has been arrested.
The explosion occurred near Maqdoom Shah Dargah.
The kids were playing at the Dargah Ghat on the Champa River and saw a new box of tiffins in a nearby dump, and Amrit Das, seven, picked it up. As soon as it was lifted, the box exploded.
The Press Trust of India news agency quoted Inspector Nathnagar Mohd Sajjad Hussain as saying the boy was taken to hospital to cope with his injuries.
Inspectors said a bomb disposal team had been sent to check any other abandoned tiffins. Locals claimed two live tiffin bombs were recovered on the spot.
The Press Trust of India news agency quoted Deputy Director of Railway Police Vinay Ram on 11 December when he was seriously injured while picking up a carton lying near the tracks. Hearing the explosion, the railway police arrived and took the seriously injured man to the hospital, where he died during treatment.
“The incident is being investigated from all angles. Forensic experts have been involved. Besides, the dog team and bomb disposal team have checked the area of the explosion,” PTI quoted him as saying.
On December 9, three children were injured in the Momin Tola area, where a crude bomb went off.
The series of explosions created panic in the area. Bhagalpur City SP Swaran Prabhat said it was investigating the matter. Police will also conduct a local house-to-house investigation, he added.
