Last March, TikTok officially entered music distribution business with SoundOn distribution service.
SoundOn allows artists to upload their music directly to TikTok and Resso, and it can also distribute artists’ music to platforms like Spotify And apple music.
The platform is active in the UK, USA, Brazil and Indonesia, and as of last week, Australia.
After the first launch, TikTok confirmed to MBW that Trustowned digital distribution platform TuneCore has been selected as a distribution partner for SoundOn.
In short, this means artists who uploaded their music to TikTok SoundOn then distributed that music to other platforms (Spotify, apple music etc) through TuneCore.
TuneCore has also been a distribution partner of the service, we know, since SoundOn quietly launched in beta in September 2021.
But now, TikTok has a new distribution partner: Amsterdam-based B2B technology and services company, FUGAwhich achieved by Musical organization downtown in January 2020.
TikTok has confirmed to MBW that its deal with TuneCore has ended and that it has had a partnership with FUGA since September.
This means that artists who upload their music to TikTok’s SoundOn will now have their music distributed to ByteDance platforms and other services (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) through FUGA’s technology.
Before SoundOn existed, TikTok had another distribution partner: independent artist distribution platform UnitedMasters, which reached an agreement with TikTok in August 2020.
UnitedMasters was selected as one of six TikTok ‘Certified Audio Partners’. EQUAL disclosure in October 2021, this ‘Audio Partner’ deal allows brands to leverage music distributed by UnitedMasters for mini-syncs on the TikTok platform.
TikTok describes it SoundOn Platform is an “all-in-one platform for music marketing and distribution”, and says it is designed “to empower new and undiscovered artists”.
The SoundOn service pays 100% royalties to music creators for the first year and 90% thereafter, and offers a variety of promotional tools and support.
Artists will be able to “receive 100% royalties for an unlimited time” for In-Bytedance platforms including TikTok and Resso.
According to SoundOn’s frequently asked questions, “by signing with SoundOn, [artists] released music for TikTok and CapCut worldwide, and Resso in Brazil, Indonesia and India.”
TikTok’s SoundOn service has been making headlines over the past two weeks.
Just this week, TikTok disclosure that it has partnered with superstar artist Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records to bring the record label’s catalog to the platform through SoundOn.
According to TikTok, the Death Row catalog is available to stream exclusively on TikTok this week, “before a wider release next week.”
Distribution service also roll out in Australia last week, just a few days after it was reported that TikTok had access restriction to major label music on the market as part of an experiment with a small group of users.Global Music Business
