Tim Scott’s major campaign funds may hint that he will run for President in 2024 | News
Will Senator Tim Scott run for president in 2024? The US Senate’s only Black Republican has raised an impressive amount of campaign cash for its Senate re-election bid. Many wondered if the South Carolina lawmaker would keep an eye on the White House.
Fox News reports that Scott has raised nearly $20 million this year. That figure includes $9.6 million for the April-June quarterly fundraising period and $8.3 million for July-September. His advocacy team has confirmed that he It has collected 82,000 donations in the past three months.
The North Charleston native’s profile has risen in the GOP since he delivered the party’s response to President Joe Biden’s joint speech to Congress, according to Politico.
Behind the scenes, he’s building a network of party sponsors big and small and is ready to appreciate his colleagues.
In his response to Biden’s address, Scott defends US record in race.
“Listen to me clearly. America is not a racist country. It’s the opposite to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination,” he said.
“Race is not a political weapon to solve all problems as one party desires,” he added. “It’s wrong to try to use our traumatic past to try to dishonor our present arguments in a dishonest way.”
Scott, who first joined the Senate in 2013, is the first African-American senator won the election in the South since Reconstruction.
He downplayed rumors of a 2024 White House bid, telling FOX News that he focus on re-election into the Senate in 2022, which he says will be his last Senate campaign.
However, his actions suggest that Scott, 56, has bigger political plans. He visited Iowa and New Hampshire, the first two stops on the road to winning the party’s presidential nomination.
His huge campaign war chest, which continues to grow, also shows that he has greater political aspirations.
