Tim Tszyu Vs. Vergil Ortiz is scheduled for August 3 in Los Angeles
The middleweight bout between Tim Tszyu and Vergil Ortiz is being scheduled for the undercard of the Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford on August 3 in Los Angeles.
If the fight takes place, Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) will fight Ortiz Jr. (20-0, 20 KO) of Golden Boy is undefeated in his fight at 154 on Sir Turki Alalshikh's card in Los Angeles, California.
This is a high-stakes fight for former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu as he lost his last fight to Sebastian Fundora on March 30 by a 12-round split decision in Las Vegas. In spite of
Tszyu was dealing with a bad cut in that fight, he was still having trouble with Fundora's work rate, and he would have had problems even if he hadn't dealt with all the health. If Vergil Ortiz beats Tszyu, it will harm his career and fans will not consider him the same fighter.
Ortiz Jr. Rising star
Tszyu will still be popular in Australia but American fans won't be excited to see him. On social media, people have been predicting a win for Vergil over Tszyu and they could be right. What we saw from Tim in the Fundora fight, he's going to get past Ortiz.
With the recently defeated Tszyu now added to the card to fight against young gun, Vergil Ortiz, this event is already one of the best this year. It was arguably superior to PBC's recent match against Tszyu last March.
Ortiz, 26, has a fight this Saturday, April 27 against Thomas Dulorme that he must win to have a chance to face former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu next August. That shouldn't be a problem for Ortiz, but you never know. He has been facing ongoing medical issues over the past two years, which has slowed his career progress.
Other undercard matches on August 3:
- Isaac Cruz vs. Jose Valenzuela
- Andy Ruiz Jr vs. Jarrell Miller
- Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares
With how good this card looks, fans won't complain about paying to see it on PPV compared to some of the other cards that have taken place over the past few years.
The main event between Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) and WBA 154-lb champion Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) should be an interesting fight.
