Time Got So Much Weirder. The World Needs a New Lexicon
Friends we need to modify the calendar. Our years begin arbitrarily, based on the “sun”, which people rarely see anymore. And for months, they were a scam, a way to keep farmers going and monks distilling. Those people don’t have social networks; they have almost no mass media. Weeks, days, hours, minutes — especially minutes — are just more mechanisms to keep humans alive last based on astronomy, astrology’s cousin. In the globalized information environment we now enjoy, we should and must build better timelines. I propose some new terms.
Demic: Term of a epidemic; divide into waveis divided into prepare in advance and panic. (Some have conceptualized a post-panic but no phase has happened yet.) Example: “I’m taking on a new job after now.” “We should have dinner while it’s still being prepared.”
Loop: A season of cheering around the new scheduled random release Apple Hardware. Replace “holidays.”
Binge: Replace “weekend”; refers to the amount of time it takes to watch an entire stream of videos. The period formerly known as Friday night to Sunday morning is goodand the period formerly known as Sunday morning to Monday morning is sad. “Honey, the panic is about to begin. Why not come and have a good time with me? ” You can freely experience a debauchery at tube speed, an enhanced state of awareness in which you participate in a culture at 1.25X, 1.5X, or 2.0X. “I overcame the last sad hardship and finished both seasons.”
Demoquadrennial: An election-focused political season, equivalent to 48 old calendar months, spans from the primary to the post-election period. Each demoquad is divided into a series of shorter time periods called sure-this. “With the revelations in Washington yesterday, this demoquad is sure to hit a record ninth.”
Light mode/dark mode: New “day” and “night”, but no longer tied to the 24-hour solar cycle. A person can opt-in at any time. “I’m off to bed — have a great light!” “It’s been a long journey of lightmode into darkmode.” Convert between the two is wither: “Darkest mode before fading.”
To push: Improved over “hours”; it increases whenever a new notification or update is delivered to your phone. This allows you to easily describe the quality of a so-called day: “It was a long light, and I felt hungry around Friday when I pushed the cart and went out for a drink.” Or: “Twelve push-ups in a row and I’m ready for a swag.”
