Todd Howard confirms Fallout 5 is coming after Elder Scrolls 6, shares additional Starfield details
In an interview with IGN, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has revealed additional details about Starfield and also uttered the name “Fallout 5” and offered an idea of when fans can expect to see it.
Speaking to Ryan McCaffery, Howard confirmed that Fallout 5 would be the follow-up game after The Elder Scrolls 6, which itself was in pre-production:
“Yeah, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’ll be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our team will be pretty full for a while. We’ve got some. other projects that we will consider. over time.”
Follow on Starfield’s big game show at the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, Howard revealed more information about the new IP. Starfield’s main story is 30-40 hours long, or 20% larger than any Bethesda game to date. New Atlantis, one of the four main cities of Starfield and the capital of the United Colonies, is also the largest city Bethesda has ever built. As for character creation, Howard says there are about 20 character backgrounds to choose from.
The game’s procedural galaxy has the most handcrafted content ever made by the studio. Boasting more than 1000 planets that the player can visit, Howard also makes it clear that you can’t fly to each planet seamlessly despite No Man’s Sky and that there’s a clear divide between the action on the ground and space gameplay. Regarding space combat, Howard discusses how air combat (which he describes as being slower) takes cues from games like FTL and MechWarrior and confirms that players can steal ships they board. .
Starfield launches in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
