Black transgender comedians, Flame Monroecoming to protect Dave Chappelle and his Netflix special Closer after the backlash he received.
Talk to TMZMonroe says that making jokes about the LGBTQ+ community is fair game and that what’s unique about the comedy world is that nothing is off-limits.
“As a comedian, I believe I don’t want to be censored,” she said. “The world has become too censored.”
Added, “All of this, what you can and can’t say is ridiculous. Comedians are placed on earth and the safest place for us on the planet is us on stage. with an audience that is willing to listen. We say things others are afraid to say, and we say they hope in a humorous way, so you use your mind to exercise critical thinking of your own. you and think for yourself.”
In case you missed it, Chappelle was fired after viewers called some of his comments offensive about the transgender and LGBTQ+ community, according to CNN.
Despite Criticism, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos is defending the new comedy special. In an October 8 email to company employees sent by The Verge and DiversityThe moderators gave special support:
“Some of you have also asked where we draw the line on hate. We don’t allow titles on Netflix that are designed to incite hatred or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line. across that boundary,” he wrote. Sarandos wrote to employees: “I find it difficult to distinguish between commentary and harm, especially with stand-up comedies that exist to cross the line,” Sarandos wrote to employees. “Some people find stand-up art to be mean, but our members love it and it’s an important part of our content delivery.”
