Trudeau seen singing with renowned Quebec musician days before queen’s funeral – National

A video of the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sang at a gathering in London, England, on a Saturday – a few days before Of Queen Elizabeth II funeral – has sparked debate on social media.

In the video, Trudeau can be seen singing Queen Bohemian Rhapsody as a Quebec musician Gregory Charles play piano. Charles was a member of the Canadian delegation and walked at the queen’s funeral on Monday.

The clip was shared on Twitter, as it garnered more than 500,000 views. It is not clear who recorded the video.

The Prime Minister’s Office authenticated the video in a statement to Global News on Monday.

“After dinner on Saturday, (the Prime Minister) participated in a small gathering with members of the Canadian delegation, who had come together to pay tribute to the life and service of Mrs. emperor,” said a spokesman for the prime minister.

“Gregory Charles, a renowned musician from Quebec and recipient of the Order of Canada, played the piano in the hotel lobby, which involved several members of the delegation including the prime minister.”

The spokesman added that, over the past 10 days, “the Prime Minister has engaged in various activities to pay tribute to the Queen.”

The Twitter user who posted the now-viral tweet said the video was from “last night at the Savoy.” While the tweet was sent on Sunday night Eastern Time, it was Monday in the UK. Many of those who responded and shared the video mistakenly assumed the video was from the night before Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral – as opposed to Saturday night, when it was actually filmed.

The tweet also reported the incorrect gathering location. The event happened in the lobby of the Corinthia London hotel, not in the Savoy as the user claimed.

However, the video sparked a fierce debate among some social media users about whether the prime minister acted appropriately.

“He can’t just pretend to be in public for a few hours to care,” One user repliedwho received more than 400 likes for the comment.

Other users, with over 100 likes on their answersrepeated the false claim that the video dates from the evening before the funeral.

“This was inappropriate on the evening before the Queen’s funeral in England.. I live in England, trust me this will not go well for him here,” they said.

Other users, however, have come to defend the prime minister. Some falsely claiming that the footage must be outdatedbecause they believe Trudeau’s hair – recently cut – appears longer in the video.

Another user said they “never understand being bothered by politicians is human and fun.”

Meanwhile, as debate continued on social media, the day’s solemn events continued in London.

The prime minister’s spokesman said that, on Monday, “the entire delegation will participate in the State Funeral.”
