Trump Trial Self-Immolator Maxwell Azzarello Donated His Kidneys, Saving Two People’s Lives
The man was involved in a self-immolation plot outside Donald Trumptrial in New York City on Friday was an organ donor who saved the lives of two others, nonprofit group LiveOn NY said Sunday.
The organ transplant nonprofit told The Daily Beast that Max Azzarello's kidneys were healthy despite his burns and that they were transplanted to an American couple in need.
“Both of Mr. Azzarello's kidneys were transplanted and he was able to save the lives of two people on the national waiting list,” Leonard Achan, president of LiveOnNY, said in a statement.
No other details about the kidney recipient were released. It's unclear whether Azzarello's other organs will be part of future transplants.
Achan added that his organization's thoughts and prayers are with Azzarello's loved ones following Friday's incident, in which Azzarello doused himself with an accelerant before setting himself on fire in what he described as an “extreme act of protest”.
That protest appeared to be aimed at raising awareness about a stunning manifesto he posted to Substack on Friday, in which he shared his hatred of the Clintons and detailed revealed his belief in a number of disturbing and debunked conspiracy theories.
The clip shows first responders extinguishing the fire that quickly engulfed Azzarello, who appeared to sit still after the chilling action. Moments later, he was put in the back of an ambulance and hospitalized in critical condition. However, by 10:30 p.m. Friday, authorities announced that the 37-year-old man from St. Augustine, Florida, passed away.
