The European TDN team has reached out to several industry members for a gentle Q&A as the holidays approach. The first is stallion master Joe Foley of Ballyhane Stud.
What was your first job in Thoroughbreds?
Coolmore as a 19-year-old left UCD to study. They gave me a lot of responsibility with a young man and I met some great people there.
The biggest influence on your career?
My parents.
All-time favorite racehorse, and why?
Lots to choose from but would give Red Rum.
Who will be the first season male champion in 2023?
When I almost answered the last question with Soldier’s Call, he was sure to get a nod to this question!
The greatest race in the world?
Irish champion S.
If you could be someone else in the industry for one day, who would it be, and why?
I’ve always wanted to be rich and famous with photographers following me around so thought I’d have to mention David Redvers.
Emerging talent in the industry (people)?
It’s great to see so many young people entering the industry but the Tradewinds team especially know what they’re doing.
Horse TDN should have done Rising Star and not?
Flight plan.
The horse under the radar?
Tasleet.
Friday night treatment?
Watch rugby on TV while playing a crossword puzzle and knocking down someone in a WhatsApp group.
Guilty pleasure outside of the race?
Golf and my electric guitar (not at the same time).
