Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal today posted a lengthy thread of spam amid Tesla boss Elon Musk’s proposed acquisition of the microblogging site. Mr. Agrawal explained Twitter’s “human review” process for potential spam, to which Musk responded, “Have you tried calling them?” The Tesla head also posted a “poop pile” emoji.

Mr. Musk said he would like to see bots removed from Twitter, among a series of changes he has proposed in recent times.
In today’s thread, Mr Agrawal said he would discuss spam “with the benefit of data, facts and context”.
“First, let me be clear: spam harms the experience of real people on Twitter and can therefore harm our business. We are therefore encouraged to detect and remove it. as much spam as possible, every day. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just wrong,” the Twitter CEO said.
“Next, spam isn’t just ‘binary’ (human/non-human.) The most advanced spam campaigns use a combination of humans combined with automation. They also compromise assets. real accounts and then use them to promote our campaign, so we do, Mr. Agrawal said.
“Some final contexts: extremely dynamic anti-spam. Competitors, their goals and tactics evolve constantly – often in response to our work! You can’t build a set of rules to detect spam today and hope they still work tomorrow They won’t,” he said in a lengthy thread.

The difficult challenge is that many accounts appear to be fake – in fact they are real people. And some of the spam accounts that are actually the most dangerous – and the most harmful to our users – may ostensibly be completely legitimate.
