Via Jack Tiernan: Tyson Fury says he’s considering retiring after his April 23 fight with Dillian Whyte. Currently, Fury says that “Very potential” that he will retire after defending his title against WBC’s Mandatory Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) on April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Fury said he wants to fight IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksander Usyk for the undisputed title later this year. Still, he doubted that would happen with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In response to the invasion, Usyk joined Ukraine’s territorial defense force, and his rematch with Anthony Joshua is currently uncertain.
Indeed, Fury doubts Usyk will go through in the Joshua rematch as he has bigger things to do with defending his country against the massive Russian army.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin seems to be trying to end the war as quickly as possible, and Usyk will be one of the big problems for the time being.
“This is the last battle of my career; I will retire then. 150 million dollars in the bank, healthy, young, I will buy a big yacht abroad. I am retired; I’m out, this is my last fight, I’m done. ”
“No, not at all,” Fury said to iFL TV when asked if he thinks Anthony Joshua beat Oleksandr Usyk in the rematch. “I don’t think the fight is happening now with the way things are going.
“I tell the truth about who he is. He is a third-rate professional boxer,” Fury told Secondsout about how he watches Whyte. “He is a good Englishman, but I am a very good world level.
“I think they’re very even, to be fair,” Fury said of his view that he sees Whyte on the same level as Dereck Chisora. “On any given day, each of them can beat the other.
“I think Dereck Chisora won the first match, and he won the second game until he got his chin. So they’re about 50-50. I cannot talk to him. He’s 6’4″, he has a good left hook, and aggressive style, he’s big, he’s strong and what more can I say about him?
“Sure, I’m hitting him [Whyte] outside. He doesn’t have a chin, as I said. Listen, this could be my last battle. This is a precious moment for me. Defending the WBC championship belt, two British boxers at Wembley had nothing to prove. Rise to the top and live like a legend forever.
“Very potential,” Fury said when asked about the possibility that he will retire after the fight with Whyte. “This is my last game against ESPN and Top Rank. I think my contract is up with them.
“I don’t need to fight anymore, I have nothing to prove. I have a family to take care of. This is probably one of my last fights, and if I do rematch, it will probably be a fantasy battle.
“Dillian Whyte, I came for the bad, I’ll come,” Fury said as he texted Dillian ahead of their April 23 battle.
It would be a terrible shame if Fury had to withdraw after his fight with Whyte, but you can see why he would want to.
With a net worth of $150 million, he has money that will last for generations, making him, his children, and their children rich for a lifetime.
It’s hard to stay motivated when you have that money, mainly when your only competitor, Oleksandr Usyk, is out of office due to military service in Ukraine.
