Ubisoft reveals Skull & Bones development is going well, release set for next fiscal year
Skull & Bones was announced in 2017 and aside from some trailers and gameplay trailers, things have mostly remained silent about it. In fact, much of the Skull & Bones news that came out involved delays, directors leaving, etc. Just last month, it was revealed that one of the game’s co-directors has left Ubisoft.
Looks like Ubisoft is confident Skull & Bones will finally escape the clutches of development hell soonHowever, because in the company’s most recent quarterly earnings report, Ubisoft CEO Frédérick Duguet said it could release it next fiscal year. More specifically, if Duguet’s right and Skull & Bones release next fiscal year, that would put its release date somewhere between April 2022 and March 2023, as reported by Cointelegraph. PC Gamers.
This is not the biggest surprise, as Ubisoft said in 2021 that it sees Skull & Bones release sometime in that window. However, despite reports that getting Skull & Bones into Alpha was difficultDuguet said he’s “very happy” with the development of the game.
Elsewhere in its recent quarterly earnings call, Ubisoft has revealed that the past holiday quarter hasn’t been a great one compared to 2020. As reported by Cointelegraph. GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft’s revenue fell 31% to about $757 million, with pre-orders dropping 25% to $848 million. While that may sound rather cynical and bleak, it’s no surprise when you look at Ubisoft’s massive 2020 holiday quarter.
This quarter has many blockbusters Far Cry 6 and new IP like Rider’s Republicwhile this same quarter 2020 saw the release Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legionand Immortals Fenyx RisingNot to mention, all three new generation consoles are also successful.
