LONDON (Reuters) – Soaring food prices pushed UK consumer price inflation to a new 40-year high last month of 9.1%, official data showed on Wednesday.
This result is in line with the consensus of a Reuters poll of economists.
“Price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, compared with declines a year ago, was responsible for the largest increase,” said the Office for National Statistics.
The ONS said consumer prices rose 0.7 percent month-on-month in May.
