Ukraine receives four additional HIMARS rocket launchers
Ukraine has received four more M142 High Mobility Missile Systems, or HIMARS, multiple light wheeled missile launchers.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Olesii Reznikov said on Twitter that four additional HIMARs have arrived in Ukraine.
“I am grateful to US President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III and the people of the United States for the reinforcement of the Ukrainian Army,” Reznikov wrote on Twitter. He added,
“We have proven to be intelligent operators of this weapon. The sound of the HIMARS volley became a top hit this summer on the front lines! “

The first eight HIMARS were particularly useful to Ukraine, as the war in the Donbas had largely developed into an artillery duel.
Missiles fired from HIMARS hit more than 60 Russian targets behind enemy lines in Ukraine, including ammunition depots and command and control posts. Overall, they have thrown Russian logistics into disarray and are slowing the Russian military’s advance in eastern Ukraine.
The HIMARS launcher has six launch tubes armed with conventional GMLRS (Multi-Guided Launch Missile System) missiles with ranges of 80 to 120 kilometers (50 to 75 miles).
Individual GMLRS missiles cost around $100,000. The S300 anti-aircraft batteries and ammunition they destroyed in Ukraine are worth millions of dollars, and the psychological impact of Russian soldiers knowing they could be attacked behind the lines of communication is incalculable.
