The adventurous days of Nathan Drake are over. As we watched him hang up his holster and rope to begin a new chapter in his life, Naughty Dog’s scribes doubled down on the “it’s over” message. Video game protagonists rarely enter the sunset, but Drake’s farewell is as definitive as they have come. Naughty Dog wrote Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End as an epilogue to Drake’s story, and it ends on a poetic and satisfying note. To put him back in the lead role would be a foolish thing to do. It’s really over. Is Drake’s name synonymous with Uncharted? He has great charisma and is endearing, but now we know he’s not its lifeline.
The Lost Legacy is as engaging and complete as any Uncharted title. We know that the heart of the adventure transcends everything else and can extend to any character.
Chloe Frazer fits the lead role admirably, but it’s never been written in a way that you feel she’s replacing or copying Drake. She’s also playful, but she has other strings; she’s more than an unreliable hustler we’ve gotten to know briefly in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Finding out who she is takes a long time in The Lost Legacy, partly because she’s extremely well protected, but also because you’re getting to know her on the adventure.
Chloe is nearing the end of a heist she organizes with Nadine Ross, a former paramilitary boss turned treasure seeker from Uncharted 4 who is in many ways the exact opposite of Chloe, pragmatic and fixated on the outcome. We’re left wondering why they’ve been together for so long, but the satisfying answer has finally come. As the confusion dissipates, Chloe and Nadine settle down well (but are a bit chaotic), and end up becoming an intriguing duo to watch. They’re funny, short, and amazingly unpredictable in both actions and words – their chemistry works even when they often headbutt each other.
Chloe and Nadine are aggressively pursuing the Golden Tusk of Ganesh, which they believe lies in the long-lost ruins of the Hoysala Empire located in the Western Ghats of India, another part of the world Naughty Dog turned into. a beautiful work of art. players to explore. The duo soon come into conflict with a rebel rebel leader named Asav, who at first appears to be just a treasure-loving madman, but is later revealed to be far more dangerous and cunning than anticipated. . Asav moves the story needle just like the heroes, and the story soars from the uncertainty of his actions.
I just wish Naughty Dog wouldn’t feel the need to mention the Drakes so often – a pastime that’s often entertaining and possibly enjoyable, but gets more attention than it needs to and reduces Chloe and Nadine’s ownership for adventure.
The Lost Legacy was originally intended as an add-on episode to Uncharted 4, but ended up being a full-fledged legitimate sequel like any Drake adventure – it’s just a little shorter. little. I would never say any of the Uncharted games are too long – they always leave me wanting more – but this new entry also proves brevity works just as well, as the journey feels more urgent and streamlined.
The gameplay of Lost Legacy is a direct continuation of Uncharted 4, hanging its hat securely on the same grappling, stealth, and open-world exploration hook that Drake used. Outside of a locksmith – which can deliver high intensity when used in areas where enemies are patrolling – Naughty Dog doesn’t introduce much that could be classified as “new”. As I traversed the lost ruins and beautiful forests of India, I never felt the gameplay needed something different. The spectacle is always huge, and the next discovery is always so compelling that I don’t think about the actions that get me there – other than that they’re hilarious and relatable.
While the game mechanics fit like a good glove, Naughty Dog still has a few tricks up its sleeve. Matching puzzles created to hide the Golden Tusk of Ganesh are challenging, clever, and again all about spectacle. Two of these puzzles rank among my favorites in the series – one that handles the platform and spins the ax, and the other that uses the ball in an engaging way. I’d even say these slower gameplay moments are more impressive than those featured in the series, where everything explodes and falls apart. Yes, Lost Legacy has a lot of that, but it’s something you’ve never seen.
Given this full-featured adventure, Lost Legacy could easily be Uncharted 5. Where Naughty Dog goes next is anyone’s guess, but I’d love to see Chloe and Nadine back for another one. other hunts, because they are all as attractive as the Drake family. They make a great team.
