US Army awards contract to DRS for advanced infrared sensors
Leonardo DRS (DRS) has announced that it has received a contract from the US Army to supply advanced infrared sensors for next-generation observation systems.
The company says these sensors will replace the current Horizontal Technology Integration (HTI), 2nd Generation Sensors for high-value platforms in the US Army’s fleet, including Battle Tanks. Abrams main battle vehicle and optional Manned Combat Vehicle.
The Company’s Fixed Price and Fixed Fee Contracts are valued at $39.5 million.

Under the contract, awarded on August 23, 2022, DRS will develop and manufacture Initial Production with a low rate of 3GEN forward-looking infrared (FLIR) Dewar Cooler Bench (DCB) long-range sensor. DCB converts infrared radiation into video images and is a key enabler for the next generation of FLIR viewfinders, delivering improved situational awareness with significant improvements in range and resolution.
