US Cornell University reports more than 900 COVID-19 cases, many infections due to Omicron variant

Cornell University reported 903 cases of COVID-19 among students between December 7 and 13, and school officials said that a “very high percentage” of those were cases. Omicron variant in fully vaccinated individuals, CNN reported.
The university’s COVID-19 dashboard was updated late on Tuesday and showed a spike in infections.
Joel Malina, Vice President of University Relations, said in a statement that virtually every case of the Omicron variant to date has been found in fully immunized students, some of them. that was also given a booster shot. Nearly 97% of students on campus are vaccinated.
Due to an increase in infections, the university announced the closure of its Ithaca, New York state campus.
End-of-semester exams have been moved online, athletics and other activities have been suspended while libraries have been ordered to close until further notice.
