US’ Infinium & Kinetik partner for eFuels production
eFuels leader Infinium has reached an agreement with a subsidiary of midstream energy company Kinetik Holdings Inc. (NYSE: KNTK) (“Kinetik”) purchases carbon dioxide (“CO2”) captured from Kinetik's gas gathering and processing system in the Permian Basin for use as a feedstock in the production of low-content electric fuels. ultra-low carbon (“e-fuel”). Infinium e-fuel is created through a proprietary process using waste CO2 and green hydrogen sourced from renewable energy.
This agreement is unique in its long-term nature and broad decarbonization benefits, delivering measurable impacts for transportation alternatives. It provides a model for industry to rethink how to capture waste streams such as CO2 for use in solutions that provide beneficial waste gas reuse.
“There are many roles to play in the energy transition and this partnership shows that the production and use of e-fuels truly benefits all parties in the energy sector,” he said. Infinium CEO Robert Schuetzle. “It's great to welcome Kinetik into our community of companies looking for beneficial CO2 reuse solutions. This agreement represents great progress and demonstrates Kinetik's leadership over with current traditional oil and gas industry carbon emission strategies.”
Under the terms of the agreement, a Kinetik subsidiary will dedicate CO2 from one of its amine gas processing facilities in West Texas to Infinium for use in a previously announced second eFuels project called Project Roadrunner. Project Roadrunner will bring the product into both the US and international markets. It will primarily produce Infinium eSAF, a sustainable aviation fuel with the potential to significantly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions associated with air transport.
“Our partnership with Infinium reinforces Kinetik's commitment to sustainability and our role as agents of change. Is the first step in Kinetik's New Energy Project , I am pleased to announce that we participate in Project Roadrunner and strongly support Infinium's mission to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Kinetik remains committed to continuing to reduce carbon emissions and promote the new low carbon technology as part of our 'energy for change' strategy,” said Jamie Welch, president and CEO of Kinetik.
Infinium previously announced a $75 million equity commitment from Breakthrough Energy Catalyst to invest in Project Roadrunner, the first project for the new platform founded by Bill Gates to finance and invest in projects First commercial project for emerging climate technologies. American Airlines is the first announced offtake partner for eSAF produced at Project Roadrunner with emissions reductions going to Citi, further modeling how innovative, long-term agreements contribute to decarbonization across the value chain of many industries.
