I will find Woodbine Miles worth $1 million will be contested by an eight-man pitch at Woodbine. Last year’s Woodbine Mile was a great race. El Tormenta was able to get past Got Stormy right at the finish line to finish the nasty game with a score of 44-1. I don’t think we’ll see version 44-1 this year, but value can still be found.
Racial Analysis:
#1 March to Arch – Riding by Patrick Husband and coached by Mark Casse – March to the Arch requires fast pace to win its races. Last time at Woodbine, he won the King Edward Stakes 2nd Place by more than 2 stages. However, in that race, the speed was very fast when going half way in 46 seconds. I don’t think March to the Arch will get the same setting, but there’s a chance he’ll come from the end. I think in the end there is so much to do that he will have to make up for it. I can’t fully accept him given the low odds that he will, but he is certainly a man worth respecting.
#2 Armistice Day – Riding by David Moran and trained by Barbara Minshall – It will be a tough race for this horse to jump in and take any chances. Last time out he finished 3rank against a much softer field at Woodbine goes a mile and an eighth. He shortened the distance keeping his running style close to the front, however he didn’t perform well enough against lesser opponents to believe he has a chance here.
#3 Shirl’s Wisdom – Riding by Kazushi Kimura and trained by Roger Attfield – This light racing pony is 2-2 at Woodbine so far and is an interesting threat. He won at 7 longhairs on grass and then he won 1 and 1/16 mile on their tapeta in the 3rd Marine Stakes. It’s clear that the trail works for him, and he’ll likely find himself on or near the lead here. He was able to improve from the first start to the second and there’s no reason to think it couldn’t keep happening. We’ll have to see if Woodbine’s top 2-year-old can jump in here. I believe he is a threat with some values.
#4 Spaceship celebration – Riding by Justin Stein and coached by Kevin Attard – Canada’s Horse of the Year 2019 is looking to become the third female to win the event. She had her four-race winning streak last in the Diana Stakes Class 1 in Saratoga. The event featured Rushing Fall, Mean Mary and SisterCharlie, three of the top racehorses in North America. There was absolutely no shame in that loss to Saratoga. Woodbine top racer Justin Stein takes the call here and when they get home, he’ll have Starship Jubilee fully rolling.
#5 Olympic Athletes – Riding by Daisuke Fukumoto and trained by Mark Casse – The Olympic athlete looks set to take on it here in this race. He has run well at the stacks in the last 2 races, however those are ice sprints. He stretches miles and miles that he’s only run once in 2rank
end place. In addition, in 5 appearances, he is inconclusive, which makes this task even more difficult. I just don’t see this one with many photos here.
#6 Admiral Pier – Riding by Stephen Bahen and trained by Barbara Minshall – This horse is likely the fastest setter in this race. In the last 5 outings, Admiral’s Pier has risen straight to the top in terms of graded bets. He was able to win 2 of those races, including the one with the March to the Arch at Tampa Bay in March 2020. He also set the pace in King Edward, where March was. to the Arch was able to turn the tide and take him down. There seems to be less competition for the lead in this race than in previous races so he will be dangerous in the early part.
#7 Value proposition – Discarded by Luis Contreras and coached by Chad Brown – Chad brown is the best lawn coach in North America and he joined the Value Proposition here after losing at 3rd Poker at Belmont in July. He’ll probably sit in the middle of the pack and Brown has this ready based on the usual training cards leading up to this race. He will certainly be sought after in the near term, as he has had 5 races on the field and 3 of them were wins.
#8 Battle of the Will – Removed by Rafael Hernandez and coached by Mark Casse – This is the best Mark Casse trio to date. War of Will will most likely be a hit when it loads into the portal, and it’s well worth it. Last time at Keeneland, he won the Mark Mile for a Tier 1 Producer. He is also a 2019 Preakness Stakes winner. He will have a nice stalking slot, and should appreciate a great opportunity in the long run. While War of Will is definitely a favorite, he is completely beatable in this race.
