USA’s male assistant Hudson trains friendly games in January
Anthony Hudson will coach the United States men’s soccer team, replacing Gregg Berhalter, ahead of the first two games of the cycle leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
The United States Soccer Federation announced on Tuesday that it’s investigating Berhalter for a 1991 conflict involving the woman who became his wife.

Hudson will lead the team to friendlies against Serbia on January 25 in Los Angeles and against Colombia three days later in Carson, California, USSF athletic director Earnie Stewart said Wednesday.
Hudson, 41, was hired to coach the US Under-20 team in January 2020 and a year later became assistant coach for Berhalter, whose contract with USMNT expired on December 31.
The USSF said its review of the 2018-22 cycle and the Berhalter investigation is ongoing and said Tuesday that it became aware of Berhalter’s 1991 conflict on December 11 and hired the company. Law Alston & Bird investigation.
“Through this process, US Soccer became aware of potential inappropriate behavior against many members of our staff by individuals outside of our organization,” the USSF said.

On Wednesday, Danielle Reyna released a statement saying that she contacted USSF during the World Cup to notify the organization of Berhalter’s conduct in 1991.
Gio Reyna is the son of Danielle and former USA captain Claudio Reyna, who played with Berhalter for the Americans during their national team career.
When the United States returns in January, Hudson’s staff will include assistant coach BJ Callaghan and current U20 coach Mikey Varas. Luchi Gonzalez, another American assistant coach, agreed last summer to coach the MLS San Jose Earthquakes team after the World Cup.
Hudson also coached the Newport fifth place team in England in 2011, the Bahrain national team in 2013 and 2014, the New Zealand national team in 2014-17 and the Colorado Rapids in the 2017-19.
