Vargas is one of the most technical boxers in the sport, and he’ll try to use his skills to nullify the powers of the slightly younger 29-year-old Foster in the gripping battle. this to win the vacant 130 lb WBC belt.
Boxing News 24h will update live & match results tonight below.
Tall, 32-year-old Vargas, 32, slouched past 5’8 1/2″ tall Foster as the two went head-to-head in a traditional head-to-head match. Vargas looks significantly taller and bigger than Texas native Foster, and it will be interesting to see if he can use his size to beat his smaller opponent tonight.
Battle card:
Rey Vargas versus O’Shaquie Foster,
Mario Barrios vs Jovanie Santiago
Lenier Pero (vs Viktor Faust .)
Claudio Marrero vs Gonzalo Fuenzalida
Eumir Marcial vs Ricardo Villalba
Dainier Pero vs Daniel Zavala
David Whitmire vs Keith Foreman
Vargas will be looking to use his height, reach and skill to defeat the inexperienced Foster tonight. It can be a dull match, as Vargas is not a skater, and he tends to focus on taking down his opponents rather than rushing into the trenches to take them down.
It’s been seven years since Vargas, a native of Mexico, scored his last knockout goal when he stopped former WBA micro-flyer champion Alexandr ‘El Explosivo’ Munoz in the fifth round in 2016. Since the match There, Vargas won his last eight games by decision.
Former WBA lightweight champion Mario Barrios (26-2, 17 KOs) will try to end his two-loss streak by taking on Jovanie Santiago (14-2-1, 7 KOs) in the 10th round.
Like Barrios, Santiago joins the fight tonight, after losing his last two matches. However, to be fair to him, he should have only had one loss on his record because of his decisive 12th round loss to horribly lackluster former four-division world champion Adrien. ‘The Problem’ Broner in February 2021 was a highly controversial bout in which Jovanie appeared to have won for a minimum of four rounds, but lost by a margin to side A.
In Santiago’s final game, he was knocked out by undefeated 140-pound talent Gary Antuanne Russell in the sixth round in May 2021. Since that loss, Santiago has been inactive.
Promising heavyweight champion Lenier Pero (8-0.5 KO) vs Viktor Vykhryst (11-0.7 KO) in a 10-round bout.
Pero, 29, is a former Cuban amateur talent who turned pro in 2019, but has yet to fight anyone notable to indicate he has a chance of being in the top 10. Where does the heavyweight come from?
At 6’4 1/2″, Southpaw Pero has the height to be a top boxer, but it’s not yet clear if he’ll qualify to make it into the pro ranks.
Viktor Vykhryst, 30 years old, fought in Las Vegas and goes by the name Viktor Faust, born in Svitlovodsk, Ukraine. He turns pro in 2020 and has some respectable names in his track record.
Faust 6’5″ won Kevin Johnson, Franklin Lawrence, Iago Kiladze, Kamil Sokolowski and Yakup Saglam.
There is no comparison between Faust and Pero’s professional achievements, as Viktor has faced much better competition in his short three-year professional career.
It’s not clear why Pero’s handlers are up against him against such incompetent opponents. Do they lack faith in Him? Either way, Pero was completely outmatched by the unknowns with poor records, and he was reeling from fighting the underdogs to help him rise up the ranks.
