Vasily Lomachenko seeks sharp training for Devin Haney
Via Knitting Ambrosio: Vasyl Lomachenko is in excellent training form for his title challenger against undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney on May 20.
Former triple world champion Loma will cede weight and overall size to Haney, but he doesn’t seem too worried about it.
He’s beaten bigger fighters before, so it doesn’t matter if he’s up against someone who doesn’t seem out of place in the welterweight division.
Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) is looking quick and light-footed as he gets ready to take on the undefeated Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) on ESPN PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
According to Chris Algieri, this could be the last time Haney competes at 135 as he has become too big for the division and it will be a big challenge for him to lose weight to defend four titles. his light heavyweight against Lomachenko.
While many boxing fans consider Haney an advantage in this match because of his size, what they don’t understand is how exhausted Haney can gain weight.
Loma won’t go through the same torture as Haney, so he won’t look like a zombie when weighed or appear haggard in battle.
“Youth and vitality. Devin is only 24 years old. He has never been assaulted, and he has never fought a dog. So this guy just got into a fight with Lomachenko,” Claudia Trejos told TV ProBox.
“There is a possibility of war. Chris Algieri said. “Being outside against the much bigger, longer [Haney].
“We saw at the press conference the difference in size, height and length, and we know about the difference in reach. In addition, Lomachenko did not lose weight. Devin Haney is losing a lot of weight.
“To get to 135, as Paulie alluded to in previous segments, this is probably the last time we’ll see him at 135. It’s not because he doesn’t want to talk here. It’s because he can’t stay here,” Algieri said of Haney’s ability to last fight at lightweight.
“Because he was only 24,” Trejos said of Haney.
“Do we believe that Lomachenko was not looking for anything?” Paulie Malignaggi said. “Gervonta Davis inserted a rehydration clause with Ryan Garcia. We didn’t hear anything about that in this fight.
“That’s where you meet the very dangerous Lomachenko. In fact, he didn’t ask for these things. Haney asked for more money. I heard they gave it to him,” Malignaggi said.
“He was not qualified to ask,” Algieri said of Lomachenko NOT being an A-side in the promotion.
“But again, Haney was not qualified to win the title a few years ago,” Malignaggi said. “He’s still lying to people just like Lomachen fooled him when all he did was win the undisputed title against Lopez. It’s not really a duck when you get into the tougher fight.
“Those are different positions, because Devin Haney is trying to get there, and Lomachenko is already there. They have very different routes. Lomachenko fought with everyone,” Algieri said.
“What I’m saying is that you don’t have to be in any position. You can deny it completely,” Malignaggi said.
“We’ve got a few of them,” says Trejos.
Malignaggi said: “Haney denied it a few years ago. “They are thinking that Lomachenko has dodged him. Each fighter is looking for a title. He [Haney] denied, thinking that Lomachenko dodged him to fight Teofimo Lopez.
“At that point, if you give the same amount and the same credit to win against Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez. People and their moms would pick Devin Haney because Teofimo Lopez was a much tougher fight at the time on paper, in fact.
