Vasyl Lomachenko “no chance” of beating Devin Haney says Mickey Bey
Via Adam Baskin: Mickey Bey believes former triple world champion Vasyl Lomachenko has “No chance” beat undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) in their bout in early 2023.
Interestingly, Bey doesn’t give Lomachenko a chance to beat Haney as Loma will be given the priority to win if they fight against his recent poor performance against Jamaine Ortiz on October 29.
That fight changed the minds of boxing fans, making them believe that 34-year-old Lomachenko had slipped because of old age and lack of exercise.
Bey says that with the maturity and talent of 24-year-old Haney, he beat two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) without issue.
Haney vs. Lomachenko is yet to be negotiated, but Bey believes the match will come.
Mickey Bey said to fight when asked if Devin Haney will beat Vasyl Lomachenko when the two meet in early 2023.
“Lomachenko is an excellent boxer, but that’s why you have to recognize Devin at his age. [24-years-old] to fight him because most of the young men don’t take the hard battles anymore. They are waiting until they are old. They don’t really do it like that.
“After Devin beat him, you have to place him high in the top rankings in the pound. Actually, Devin wanted to fight him when he was 20 years old. I coached Devin for him when he was 20 years old.
“He called me to his house, ‘Let’s train Lomachenko.’ At the time, I thought he would still beat him. But now, I don’t see any chance he can beat Devin.
“Devin is too mature. As a boxer as good as Lomachenko, I don’t see that style dealing with Devin. It was a difficult task for both of them. It was a great fight. Devin is a competitive guy.
“He is not afraid of a challenge. If someone challenges him, he will fight 100%, but he will surely defeat Lomachenko. He should be for his fighting style. Anyone can have a night off. It’s just part of the game,” Bey said when asked if Haney has received praise from boxing fans for beating Lomachenko, given how badly Loma looked in her recent bout. with Jamaine Ortiz on October 29.
“Boxing is the only sport where people get rid of you after a [poor performance]. Look at football, basketball and every other sport. They can take a million times. Even in the UFC, another combat sport. They have a lot of losses.
“Lomachenko defeated a tough young boxer [Ortiz]. This guy had a lot of experience from that fight. If he doesn’t want to, he can go ahead and fight for an empty belt and fight anyone. So for sure he gets all the credit for fighting Lomachenko,” Bey said.
