Verity Beck Charged in Chainsaw Murder of Parents Reid and Miriam Beck
A Pennsylvania woman shot her elderly parents in the head and then chopped their bodies with a chainsaw and threw their organs in the trash, authorities announced Wednesday.
Verity Beck, 43, was at the Jenkintown home when police arrived Tuesday night to check on her parents, Reid and Miriam Beck, who have not been seen or heard from since January 7.
They were faced with a horrifying sight: the smell of a decomposing corpse, a body wrapped in a white sheet and duvet, body parts in trash bags and saws.
“Both Reid and Miriam were found in different stages of dissection,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said at a news conference to announce Verity Beck’s arrest on murder charges.
He said it appeared Reid, 73, a retired steam mechanic, and Miriam, 72, a retired school nurse, were hit in the head by a bullet through the pillow.
“We hope and pray that happens first,” he said.
According to one criminal complaint obtained by WPVIpolice were summoned to the home by the victim’s son—who showed up to check on his parents and found the body wrapped.
He told his sister she needed to call the police, and she is said to have told him she needed “more time”. He went home and dialed 911.
Responding police asked Verity Beck where her parents were, and she replied, “They’re dead,” according to the complaint.
Steele said the separation “has been going on for a while,” and according to the complaint, Verity sent text messages that appear to have belonged to her parents to her brother when he tried to contact her. contact them.
“We’re looking into the motive behind this,” Steele said. “We found evidence in the house that a safe was tried to break into.”
Verity Beck, who lives with her parents, doesn’t seem to be much on social media. She works as a beach pass checker in Sea Isle City, where her parents have a second home, and records show she applied for a fee waiver to file for bankruptcy in 2020.
