VFACTS: Tesla drives big EV market share in August
One month big delivery from Teslacoincided with the local launch of Model Y SUVs, took electric vehicles to their second-best monthly market share to date, in August.
Total electric vehicle (EV) sales 4235 in August, 80% of them wear Tesla badges.
“Year-to-date sales of electric vehicles represent 2% of the total market, hybrids 7.6% and plug-in hybrids 0.6%,” FCAI CEO Tony Weber said.
“Combined electric vehicles currently account for just over 10% of total sales,” he said.
In August, Tesla sold a total of 3397 vehicles, equivalent to just over 80% of electric vehicle sales of the month. A total of 4235 EVs were sold in August.
Tesla was also the seventh best-selling brand in August, outselling brands such as MG (3074 sales), Subaru (2960 sales) and Isuzu Ute (2800 sales).
It was still trailed by Toyota, the best-selling brand for the month, selling a total of 20,616 vehicles.
In August, it sold a total of 2380 Model 3 sedan, making it the best-selling passenger vehicle of the month and the fourth-best-selling vehicle overall.
Model 3 was defeated by Toyota Hilux (Sales 6214), Ford Ranger (4497), and Toyota RAV4 (2482) for overall sales in August.
It outsells things like Toyota land cruiser (2379 sales), Mazda CX-5 (2325), Toyota Corolla (2115), and Mitsubishi Triton (2087).
In the luxury midsize passenger car segment, the Tesla Model 3 outsold its closest competitor significantly. Mercedes-Benz C-Class (Sales 306) and BMW 3 Series (252).
Tesla also delivered 1017 new Model Y SUVs launched in August.
This is the best-selling luxury mid-size SUV in the country, the best-selling BMW X3 (420 sales), Mercedes-Benz GLC wagon (316), Volvo XC60 (299), and Audi Q5 (227).
For the past few months, Tesla has stalled production at its manufacturing plant in China.
The last time Tesla recorded similar monthly sales was back in March 2022 when it recorded 4417 Model 3 sales. The Model Y is still unsold.
