Viral video of Punjabi man in Mercedes car buying cheap rations on the Internet
Modern technology has brought us all under the scanner of the internet. For better or worse, almost nothing is hidden from the prying eyes of the cameras around us. A man from Panjab realized it the hard way when he was filmed buying cheap rations in his luxury car. Viral video shows a man going to a food warehouse in Hoshiarpur, Punjab and picking up sacks of wheat, flour and rice that he kept in the trunk of his truck and driving away. The entire episode was captured by a bystander and posted to Twitter, and the video went viral.
Subsidized meals are available at these stores for people in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) who cannot afford to buy their essential groceries from regular stores. Food here is provided to the disadvantaged for INR 2/kg.
According to reports, Amit Kumar, who runs the meal store in the video, makes it clear that the man has a BPL card, and that he was just following the instructions to check the card and deliver the meal.

The video has drawn some outrage and some humorous comments on the internet:
“Not only in Punjab, but across India, people are also benefiting from free meals where they earn more than BPL people.”
“The government should start delivering rations at home to prevent chori theft (theft).”
“This is how you get rich. Think smart. Take off your hat.”
“Let’s see how grounded he is. Even after getting a Mercedes, he still gets rations from the catering shops.”
“For your information, old Mercs are as cheap as an Alto. They have a lower market value, that’s why their value drops. Maybe it could be a middle man. Save owning an old Merc out of your budget.”
Meanwhile, reports have emerged of the man explaining that it was his relative’s car. He said, “They don’t live in India, and park on our spot. It’s a diesel, so we just started it up for a few days and did a few laps.”
