Low-resolution official imagery of the forthcoming Volvo EM90 has appeared online ahead of the electric people mover’s official reveal on November 12.
The images published by Spanish leak publication Cochespias show the EM90 looks to be essentially a Volvo-badged version of the Zeekr 009. Both brands are owned by Chinese giant Geely.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Volvo EM90 without any camouflage, as a filing from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) detailed the exterior, as well as several technical details.
This is, however, the first time we’re seeing the interior, which also closely resembles that of the Zeekr 009.
Inside the EM90 there are plush individual first- and second-row seats, with the latter receiving large headrests, tray tables, and what appears to be a retractable footrest.
There’s also a third row of seating but the leaked images don’t properly show what it looks like back there. It’s expected to be a three-person bench seat, meaning the EM90 will be a seven-seater.
Externally, the EM90’s front end has the brand’s ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlight signature which resembles the recent EX30 and EX90, plus an illuminated Volvo badge and what appear to be vertical air intakes, a lower faux grille portion, and a grille area decorated with geometric cutouts.
Around the side the handles for the front and rear doors are situated next to each other, indicating classic sliding doors for easy passenger entry into the people mover.
The rear of the EM90 is largely flat and comprises a wide tailgate, T-shaped LED tail lights, as well as illuminated Volvo scripture.
As previously reported, the Volvo EM90, per the MIIT filing, measures in at 5206mm long, 2024mm wide, and 1859mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3205mm.
For context, this is around the same size as the LDV MIFA and its electric MIFA 9 counterpart.
A single rear-mounted electric motor with 200kW will power the model, with an electronically limited top speed of 180km/h.
While the homologation filings don’t provide a claimed range for the EM90, it’s expected to be very similar to the Zeekr 009.
The 009 uses Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), and offers a choice of 116kWh and 140kWh batteries supplied by CATL.
Claimed range figures are 702km and 822km, respectively, albeit both on the lenient CLTC test cycle.

Regardless of the battery, the 009 produces 400kW and 686Nm from its dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain. It’s unclear if this powertrain will be available in the EM90.
Though Volvo has a rich history of family-friendly vehicles, the EM90 will be the first people mover the Swedish brand has offered.
Orders will open for the Chinese market, for which it has been originally developed, at the initial November reveal.
The company says additional markets will be discussed at a later date.
While premium people movers are less common in Australia than they are in China, Lexus is one brand that will bring the segment to local shores with its second-generation LM people mover, based on the Toyota Alphard.
The LM will go up against the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which is also available with an electric powertrain under the EQV nameplate.
