Warner Bros. Games Announces Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, an RPG exclusively for mobile devices
Warner Bros. Games announced Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a mobile-exclusive Mortal Kombat experience. The game is described as a gathering role-playing game, where the player builds a roster of fighters from the Mortal Kombat universe and “unlocks them in massive real-time group battles”. It’s not just battles, however – Onslaught is also said to offer a cinematic story experience where warriors must defeat a “dark and dangerous threat”.
This is not the first time Mortal Kombat has appeared on mobile devices. Mortal Kombat Mobile was released in 2015 alongside Mortal Kombat X and finally adapted characters and features from Mortal Kombat 11. Mortal Kombat Mobile has been downloaded over 150 million times since launch, so It’s no wonder WB Games wants to release more games from the franchise.
October 8 marks the series’ 30th anniversary, and Mortal Kombat: Onslaught seems to be a celebration of that. Not only is this the latest mobile game in the series, but it’s also the most recent since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate in 2020. As for the future of the series outside of the mobile market, Netherrealm has quite recently quiet. Outside of Our interview with franchise co-creator Ed Boon where he said we’ll have to wait a little longer, the most recent news we got was this tweet:
Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is coming sometime in 2023. If you want to subscribe to receive more updates, you can visit their website here. If you crave more Mortal Kombat, watch this trailer celebrating its 30th anniversary.
