Chile and Inter Milan star Arturo Vidal was sent off during the match against Ecuador in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying round for kicking the opponent in the face. Trying to receive a long pass near Ecuador’s penalty area, the midfielder managed to get close to the ball and hit the opponent’s face. Although Vidal’s reaction showed that it was an accidental action, he had to receive a red card from the referee because of this incident. Here is a video of Vidal’s kung fu kick:

Being sent off had a big impact on Ecuador’s 2-0 win at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo. Pervis Estupinan put his side ahead in the ninth minute, followed by Vidal getting a red card in the 13th minute.
Playing with 10 men, Chile could not find an equalizer and Moises Caicedo sealed the victory for Ecuador with a goal in injury time.
With the loss, Chile’s chances of overcoming Qatar are getting less and less and they are sixth in the CONMEBOL qualifying group with 16 points. Brazil and Argentina have qualified with Ecuador looking to consolidate third place.
