Replaces KS Bharat, who is holding wickets on behalf of Wriddhiman Saha on Day 3 of the India vs New Zealand First Test at Green Park in Kanpur, played a key role in helping India get their first breakthrough in the first innings. Bharat, first caught Ravichandran Ashwin’s pitch and then gestured directly to reserve captain Ajinkya Rahane to reconsider after the umpire failed to dismiss it. Video replays showed New Zealand’s first-match opener, Will Young, having the edge.
It all took place in the 67th round of New Zealand. Desperate to break the opening stance between Young and Tom Latham, Rahane turned to his most experienced cameraman and Ashwin did not disappoint. The veteran off-spinner player, who has been struggling since the last session of Day 2, had one who just slipped past the surface. What added to Young’s woes was the low bounce. He tries to hit it off the back foot but it has a bit of a fringe instead.

Bharat did a good job crouching low to complete a sharp catch. However, Umpire Nitin Menon shook his head. This is where Bharat, who kept the ball for the first time in a Test match (as a substitute) made an impression again. He believes Young has an advantage and asks Rahane to take the DRS exam. Seeing his young goalkeeper extremely confident, Rahane reconsidered and it proved right.
Young, who scored a stunning 89 on his debut, has come a long way. India finally got its first breakthrough after 151 openings.

The 26-year-old Bharat was also sacked for the first time in an international cricket match. India’s designated goalkeeper for this test match, Wriddhiman Saha, is being treated for a stiff neck, which has kept him off the field so far on Saturday.
India was bowled 345 in their first inning. Debutant Shreyas Iyer co-starred with the bat, becoming the 16th Indian to score one hundred on his Test debut.
