WBA World Lightweight Champion Gervonta “The Tank” Davis Wins! ⋆ 24 hour boxing news


Via Ken Hissner: At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, Sunday via Showtime PPV Premier Boxing Champions, Sampson Lewkowicz (Sampson Boxing), Tom Brown (TGB Promotion) and Leonard Ellerbe (Mayweather Promotion) feature in the Main Event Lightweight Champion World WBA Gervonta “Tanks” Davis beat ranked 8th as Isaac“ Pitbull ”Cruz. In the co-star, Sebastian Fundora defeated Sergio Garcia in a WBC Super Welterweight knockout match.

In the main event, the 3rd place champion defends his WBA World title Lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, 26-0 (24), #134, of Baltimore, MD, defeating the stacker 8th is Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, 22 -2-1 (15), #134 ¼, of Mexico City, MEX, over 12 rounds.

In the first inning, Cruz landed a left hook on his chin for the first ten seconds. Halfway through, Cruz always lunges forward to land another left hook with Davis counter-attacking a right chin-kick.

Cruz rocked Davis with a shot straight to the body, knocking him off balance at the last minute. In the second inning, Davis landed firmly on Cruz’s chin. Referee Thomas Taylor warned Davis twice about pushing down the short Cruz striker. In the third round, Davis landed on Cruz’s chin from his hands. In the final seconds, Davis nailed Cruz with a cut on his left chin, winning the round.

In the fourth round, Davis continued to move on the ring in front of Cruz’s stalking. Davis hit the upper left shot as Cruz caught up with him throughout the round. In the fifth round, when Cruz got inside, Davis tied him up. Davis controlled the round except for a warning for being rough with Cruz. In the sixth round, Davis continued to dominate the fight with his arm and leg speed, as Cruz went into the top lane.

In the seventh round, it was all Davis with a nosebleed in front of Cruz. In the eighth round, Davis continued to knock Cruz down until the final seconds when Cruz rocked Davis with a chin-butt. In the ninth inning, it was all Davis with Davis the aggressor, but Davis’ hand speed was too much for Cruz.

In the tenth round, Cruz dropped a left hook to the chin, rocking Davis in the first minute. Davis controlled the rest of the round. In the eleventh inning, Cruz chased Davis and caught up with him in a number of round wins.

In the twelfth and final inning, Davis looked content with going the distance for just the second of his twenty-six games, keeping Cruz on the defensive.

The scores are 116-112 and 115-113 twice, for this writer 117-111.
Davis said he injured his left hand in the fifth inning and needed to be rechecked after the game. Other champions have declared “easy work!” Cruz countered, “fans know who won the fight!”
In the Southpaw Sebastian co-feature “The Towering Inferno”

Fundora, 18-0-1 (12), #153 ¼, of Coachella, CA, beat Sergio “El Nino” Garcia 33-1 (14), #153 ½, of Torrelavega, Cantabria, Spain, over 12 round, winning the WBC Super Welterweight title knockout.

The much taller Fundora controlled the fight with her stab for the first five innings except for the third. Garcia busted Fundora, who had been suffering from a nosebleed since the third round. In the sixth round, Garcia continued to fight the much taller Fundora. In the seventh round, through the ninth, Fundora had just more than one stab that kept it close but not enough to make rounds.

During the eleventh round, the much shorter Garcia relentlessly attacked Fundora. In the twelfth and final round, Garcia knew he needed a knockout but was knocked out until the last twenty seconds when a left hook from Garcia rocked Fundora just before the bell.
Scores are 115-113, 117-111 and 118-110

Middleweight Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko, 13-4 (10), #159 , of Ukraine and Brooklyn, NY, lost to Carlos Adames, 21-1 (16), #159 , DR and Washington Heights, , NY, more than ten rounds.

Scores are 95-95, 96-94 and 97-93.

Featherweight superweight Eduardo “Zurdito” Ramirez, 26-2-3 (12), # 129 ½, of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, MEX, beat Miguel “The Scorpion” Marriaga, 30-5 (26), # 129 ½ , of Arjona , COL, more than ten rounds.
In the third half, Ramirez scored the knock-out goal. The scores are all 99-90.

Middleweight Luis Arias, 19-3-1 (9), #155 ¾, of Boca Raton, FL, lost to Vaughn “The Animal” Alexander, 16-6-1 (9), #157, of St. Louis, MO, over ten innings.

The score is 96-93 Arias and 96-93 twice for Alexander.
