Why Jennifer Coolidge almost passed the role of White Lotus
Jennifer Coolidge almost failed to make her flight to Hawaii.
The actress recently revealed that she almost didn’t take on her iconic role as Tanya McQuoid on the grieving social network in By HBO White Lotus. Coolidge, who earned an Emmy nomination for the role, said she nearly failed because she was insecure about her pandemic weight gain.
“It’s COVID, [I was] locked up with the very nice girl I know in New Orleans,” Coolidge said People in an interview published on September 1. “Those were just very lonely times … and so she and I became obsessed with these vegan pizzas and we ate a lot of them every day.”
“The numbers are constantly growing,” she continued. “You can eliminate all the worries you have in the world if you just eat another pizza.”
Coolidge is nothing if not related.
So when White Lotus creator Mike White contacted her, Coolidge initially turned down the role because she wasn’t, as she said, in “combat mode”—even asking White if they could move the shot (they couldn’t).
