Why Neil Gaiman is not confident about Sandman’s future
Sand sellers was a success — but that may not be enough.
Despite being the #1 show on Netflix worldwide, with over 127 million hours watched between August 8 and August 14, a second season of the long-awaited series is far from certain.
Why? “Because Sandman is a really expensive program,” Sand sellers creator Neil Gaiman explain on Twitter. “And for Netflix to release the money to let us do another season, we have to perform incredibly well.”
He added, “So yeah, we’ve been the top show in the world for the past two weeks. That still might not be enough.”
The Mindy Kaling-manufacturing I have never #2 worldwide with just over 55 million hours watched in the same time period, followed by season 3 of Locke & Key in 3rd place, the fourth part of Strange things at the 4th place and the 4th season of Virgin River in 5th place.
Sand sellers watched nearly 200 million hours in the first nine days of its release since its August 5 launch.
