Via Sean Jones: Dmitry Bivol said last week that he is no longer interested in a second game against former four-division world champion Canelo Alvarez in 2023.
Canelo seems to have annoyed Bivol by skipping the rematch against him twice in order to have easier matches against him. Gennadiy Golovkin and now the unannounced John Ryder.
Now, some believe Canelo is deliberately delaying the Bivol rematch, knowing what awaits him, just as he is doing by swapping David Benavidez & David Morrell at super-middleweight.
As far as Bivol is concerned, he proved his superiority as a boxer by defeating Canelo Alvarez last May by a unanimous decision in 12 rounds at one of the venues. his favorite at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo had his window
“Honestly, I don’t care,” Bivol said iFL TV about the chance to fight a second time with Alvarez the following year. “I don’t want to depend on his decision about who he wants to fight.
“I just want to fight; I want to fight for four belts. If you can’t fight this battle, fight another, I will be patient.”
Any slight interest in Bivol’s aim to face famous Mexican star Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) in a rematch is in the rearview mirror.
You could say that 32-year-old Canelo took his chance and blew it by playing the game, skipping a rematch with Bivol last September.
Compared to other fighter planes are realistic insist Canelo for a fight and purposefully fought with light touches, waiting for him to throw them a bone, Bivol less necessary. Bivol will keep an eye on that bout, knowing the winner is who he needs to face to become next year’s light heavyweight four-belt champion.
Fighting Canelo again doesn’t appeal to Bivol unless he can win something about the title.
If Canelo wants a rematch bad enough with Bivol, he’ll forget about getting into a head-to-head match against 34-year-old John ‘The Gorilla’ Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) promoted by Eddie Hearn next May and give it a try. and set up a rematch with the then talented Dmitry.
Alvarez deserves credit
You have to commend Canelo for going up against Bivol from the start, as that showed a lot of bravery on his part as he went up 175 to challenge the WBA champion.
Even when Canelo kicks off this move to help him cover for his continuation of beating the lions in 168th in David Benavidez & David Morrell, it still shows a lot of stress in the face of a talent. like Bivol.
For some fans, Bivol comes in 2nd in the light weight category. He’s not an old man like Sergey Kovalev, whom Canelo chose in 2019 to get the belt easy. Bivol is a 31-year-old, still at the peak of his game.
