Via Craig Page: Fans are starting to wonder if Jermall Charlo will return to the ring this year to defend his annual WBC middleweight title.
Charlo is unbeaten (32-0, 22 KOs) won off the grid over the past 16 months since his life-and-death battle in what was supposed to be an easy battle against Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021.
Some people believe that 32-year-old Jermall is waiting for a big payday in Canelo next year and don’t want to risk a loss before that time.
If Big Charlo waits too long, the World Boxing Council will order him to defend against his compulsion. Carlos Adames (22-1, 17 KOs), who looked sensational earlier this month when he defeated Montiel with a third-round knockout in a 160-lb WBC title knockout.
If the idea is to have Charlo wait for Canelo’s payday, Adames could soon sabotage his plan as WBC won’t let Jermall sit on his middleweight belt without defending it for longer.
Mike Tyson Tried To Call Jermall David Benavidez earlier this year, but he won’t do it. Tyson concluded that Jermall was “scared” of ‘Mexican Monster’ Benavidez (26-0.23 KOs), and a lot of boxing fans on social media agreed with him.
