William Ruto defeats Raila Odinga to win Kenyan presidency
Ruto won with 50.49% of the vote, beating veteran opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is running for the fifth time.
He will become Kenya’s fifth President since independence, winning the seat in his first attempt. Ruto’s party, the Kenya First coalition, won a majority of seats in the Kenyan senate, the second highest party in Parliament.
The announcement of the results was delayed more than two hours after the constitutional deadline and the country’s election commission was split, after four officials rejected the results of the commission’s Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

He also thanked his competitor and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, and said: “We focused on the issues and tried to sell an agenda to the Kenyan people throughout the campaign. ”
