Window Shop with Cars and Drivers
Lexico.com defines cult as “misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing.” We cover that definition because this week Window shop The challenge was to find cars with a large following of loyal followers and try to explain why and how these machines became the vehicle equivalent of Jim Jones.
As we said almost weekly, this should have been easy. But as usual, we leave out the obvious answers. Saab and Mazda Miata? Too easy. Our picks are a bit off-center, even for an episode about car cults. Road & Track rider John Pearley Huffman caused another fire by picking up a Jeep, but not the one you might think. Contributor Jonathon Ramsey tracked Pearley off-road, blessing the rains in Africa on an ingenious British tractor. Senior editor Joey Capparella passed a ruling against the Greek Row brothers who sent their allowance to the Far East, while CD head Tony Quiroga turned to Japan the opposite way, transferring a famous Swedish textbook in the process.
There is a clock. And know that no Teslas were harmed in the making of this video. Because that would be too easy and the comments would be too annoying.
