As of Tuesday, Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has lost six rounds of voting to become the next Speaker of the House in Congress. These humiliating failures has put the legislative branch of the United States Government in limbo and even caused a bored congressman to go full Leeroy jenkins on the floor of the House as the worst parts of the Republican Party devoured it.
In case you haven’t been watching, Democrats’ better-than-expected results in the midterm elections last November gave Republicans a slim majority in the House. While McCarthy has campaigned for the Speaker role as a former Minority Leader, he has not really won over Trump supporters like Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.). That leaves him a dozen votes short of the votes needed to make him third on the list, but that hasn’t stopped him from showing his ass in the polls. vote after vote after vote.
In one of those rounds shortly after noon today, Representative Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) decided to have a little fun with his vote, shouting Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) along. style of Leeroy Jenkins, infamous World of Warcraft photo manipulation.
Huffman, 58, confirmed that in a later tweet. “Yup, I said what I said,” he wrote, clearly pleased with himself. “If Republicans are going to put us through this repetitive self-punishment process, we can make it memorable too.”
For anyone unfamiliar with Leeroy Jenkins, which probably includes most of Gen Z at this point, this is one of the earliest viral memes on the internet. a group Oh The player tries to carefully plan and coordinate a boss fight, but Leeroy picks up pockets and causes the entire crew to be massacred. Gone for years like a failed epic, it was actually staged by players Ben “Anfrony” Vinson and Ben Schulz, eventually immortalized by reference in the game itself.
