Rarely do I watch a video game trailer more than once. However, with Bungie marathon reboot/sequels/whatever, I’ve found myself repeating its slick and stylish announcement trailer over and over. That’s not just because of the slap trailer, but because Bungie is teasing what looks to be one of the most exciting shooters released in years.
On March 24, just before a Spider-Man 2 the intro will begin a “pond,” Bungie (halo, destiny) reveal it Next big first-person shooter: marathon. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s actually Bungie harking back to one of its oldest franchises, a trilogy of Mac-only shooters, marathon. However, I’m not here to talk about marathonlore, history, fans or anything related to Bungie mythology. No, I just wanted to run through a couple of snippets about how cool and refreshing this game’s announcement trailer and interface are compared to most other shooters and games out there. And I don’t seem to be alone in loving this trailer as it has already hit 18 million views on YouTube.

Since the time The trailer’s intense electronic music starts at the very beginning, I have attended. We then see someone in a sci-fi costume looking like a raddy run through a tunnel, all while photos of brightly colored robotic beetles create creatures. complex like a robot. What is happening here? I do not know, but you just heard a little sick in the music?
Either way, the character is running out of the dark tunnels and into an incredibly bright world, where we see that they also have vibrant colors, including a colored helmet. bright neon pink. Music plays as the camera zooms closer and closer to the runner. Things get tense as the music becomes a digital mess and then BAM! That’s all she wrote to this runner as they were sniped from a distance by a cyborg that looked as sleek and white as paper. Our jogger, now dead, is seen collapsing in slow motion into a milky substance, their ink-blue blood mixing and swirling into the water surrounding their corpse. When the sniper cyborg rips something from the dead runner, music is played again, glitches and BAM! Bungie reveals that this vibrant trailer is for a new movie marathon.
“Exciting” is really the key word here. Everything in this trailer comes out in a way I haven’t seen in most other shooters released in recent years. A lot of modern shooters seem to focus on realism, which can be nice looking but also a bit dull. The popular color scheme that we used to see on shooters is also starting to make shooters like it call of duty And battlefield mix them together. Or do they all look a bit like fortress, which while colorful, is no longer visually distinct. I like a lot of this modern shooter. But with marathoneverything was different.
In fact, it goes beyond many colors. Its most of colorful with all the pinks, yellows, greens and blues clashing in almost every frame. However, it is all balanced by surreal lighting, materials, textures and models. The palettes are amazing to look at and some of us Kotaku couldn’t stop gawking at the trailer.
marathonIts new art style is fresh and bold
bungie call marathon‘S “graphic realism” art style, as mentioned in a recent behind-the-scenes video about the rebooted shooter. Bungie dev Emily Katske further explains the game’s art, saying it’s “bold, colorful [and] Stylized.”
The game’s director, Christopher Barret, in the same video, also said that the team wanted the art to be “beautiful” and “vibrant”, “mysterious” and “familiar”, “but also strange”.
Normally, I would roll my eyes a little at this kind of talk, but after seeing the trailer and concept art of this new movie marathonyes, i get it. Balance is key, though. Bungie must carefully balance when and where to “dial” [things] up to 11″ and when to step back a bit so people don’t get overwhelmed trying to play.
It was a risky choice, taking a beloved brand and turning it into something daring. It’s also quite different from the original marathon games with duller or dirtier textures and Death-same as sprites. I have discovered some perennial marathon fans are upset about this new, more colorful and stylized direction. And until we actually play the final game, we won’t know if this will actually work out. Was this a big, costly mistake? Or a perfect landing big gamble? No idea!
But marathon The trailer, the concept art, and the overall style got me more excited than I expected to play this upcoming mining shooter. I’m not even a fan of that online FPS genre, but I want to see more marathon so bad I’ll give it a shot. As long as I can waddle around Bungie’s fancy new world for a few minutes before getting killed, I’ll be happy to play and explore marathon whenever it shows up.
