The capital has seen a celebration of six successful women — Faith Kachenga Mukonko, Mwila Masongo, Nalavwe Chinakila, Doris Couvaras, Katebe Beauty and Angela Malenga — These women are the winners of the My contest. Home Town was held recently in Zambia. Coming from small towns and villages, their journey is an inspiration to all those who set out to achieve their dreams.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, My Home Town Winner Faith Kachenga Mukonko describes her life before the competition. She said, “I’ve always been the girl who knew she could achieve a lot. I come from a small town where there are very few opportunities.” Pointing to her situation, she added: “I went to a public school, and most people think that the big things or big things in life are for the rich. But then I had the thought that any good thing in life is for me, so I focused on studying hard.”
“And in a class with over 100 students and a school with over 500 students, I was the only girl who got into the national school, then I went to a university where I was pursuing a bachelor of science degree. computer, and I’ve been excellent ever since, she continued, smiling.
She expressed how her life changed after that, adding, “And then there was My Home Town, an opportunity to empower women and give us a platform to voice our opinions. on various issues and more importantly help our community. The contest is an extremely fierce competition with more than 2000 participants. During the finale, I always told myself ‘we might be 54 women right now, but I’ll be the only one standing’, and I was sure of that. So, after the competition, I now have these great opportunities. Today, I am in India, participating in the Dreamers are Achievers fashion show. I have also traveled the world. And I couldn’t be happier.”
When asked what dream she has for her country, Mukonko continued, “The biggest dream for my country is to have people who believe in achieving greatness.” She wants “Zambicans to understand that whatever you put your mind to, you can achieve. And as long as you continue to follow your path, the universe or God, whatever you believe in, will join forces to help you get there.” She believes that “what holds us back in life is not a person’s finances, status or background, but the support you have, the support we have for our future. ”
And if there’s one thing she wants to say to other dreamers, it’s “stop feeling sorry for yourself. We all go through negative situations, it’s normal to feel bad and sad. But you have to get up and take control of your life.”
