Dave, who plays Uncle Joey on Happy home from 1987 to 1995 and upon reboot Fuller House from 2016 to 2020, it was revealed that he was very close to being a cast member on the class sketch show instead of ending up with the Tanners.
In a July 13 interview on SiriusXM’s Jim Norton and Sam RobertsDave said he auditioned for SNL when he was a popular comic in the 80s and got a call saying the show’s legendary creator Lorne Michaels want him to be a member.
“Of course, I told everyone in my life,” Dave said. “All comics are like ‘Well, you’re on SNL? ‘ and I said, ‘Yes, can you believe it?’ “
But then the other shoe fell.
“I packed everything in my apartment and then 10 days went by and I didn’t hear anything,” he explained. “I was trying to find an apartment in New York. I was ready to go. Then I got a call that said, ‘I have some bad news.’ I said, ‘What could be so bad – I can’t find an apartment?’ He said, ‘No, you’re not going anywhere.’
