Zelzal Filly Tops Osarus Breeze-Up Sale
A small but selective approach to the Osarus Breeze-Up Sale paid a dividend to Philip Prevost-Baratte after Zelzal (Fr) filly (lot 71) was discounted with a peak sale of €60,000.
The France-based shipper also responsible for the second-highest lot will go under the hammer on Tuesday, a Starsangledbanner (Aus) pony (lot 8), who earned €58,000.
However, despite ensuring a healthy profit and aiming to sell with two of its three services, Prevost-Baratte revealed that he is frustrated by the Zelzal filly didn’t put a juicer price tag.
He explained, “It was a bit disappointing for Emmanuel Viaud [director of Osarus] because we trust him and send him better horses every year. That’s why I’m a bit disappointed, because he deserves better horses in this sale. ”
Prevost-Baratte added, “We see some more Irish guys coming here, which is great, because it’s a really good sale in a lovely place and the track is fantastic-nothing. Which horse comes back limp or stiff after a breeze – so for that reason, I’d like to see this sale go better. ”
Prevost-Baratte admits that he expects Zelzal Last October, a pinhook of €29,000 to a group of friends at Arqana, to get a higher price but self-described happy to be at the top of the sale.
The head of the session was Falcolina (Ire) (Falco) who won seven times, while Starsangledbanner colt belongs to an unlicensed daughter of Tamayuz (GB), named Lady Tamayuz (Ire).
He said, “We like Zelzal dirty a lot. We picked her up at Arqana with some friends and decided to take her to Osarus to support Emmanuel and while we expected her to make €80,000 or more we are happy with the result. . ”
Above Starsangledbanner Colt, Prevost-Baratte explains that the €56,000 price tag is a fruit of patience.
He explained, ” Starsangledbanner bred by David Salabi of Thenney Stud and he wants to sell it [as a yearling] but he is a fun color and he is not commercial. He’s almost blonde, very light chestnut, but he does a great breeze and looks like a great galloping horse, which makes all the difference. Many people were very excited about him.”
Prevost-Baratte added, “We did well. I know the horses to bring to this sale and that’s pretty important. We had a good result but I just feel it could have been even better. ”
A total of 67 lots were sold under the onslaught of Osarus La Teste Breeze-Up Sale, of which 46 lots sold for an average price of 16,705 euros, down from 19,742 euros in 2021.
The percentage of horses sold also decreased slightly year-on-year, from 70% in 2021 to 69% this year, while total spending was only 685,500 euros compared with 798,500 euros last year.
