10 interesting details about Mega Man that Capcom just shared about this classic
This section of the document details Guts Man’s weapon, which seems to have more features at this point. In the final game, Mega Man can lift rocks and throw them, but it’s worth noting that those rocks have to exist in the stage design. This page suggests that the original plan was for Mega Man to be able to throw an unlimited supply of smaller rocks when the rocks weren’t around. That would make for a more typical boss weapon, because it’s rather odd that Guts Man’s “weapon” is only usable in certain parts of the final game and is basically just his arm. Mega Man instead of some kind of gun.
It’s always a neat thing to go through a classic before it becomes a classic and see what ideas don’t make it into the final version.
When the designers of Mega Man sketched these things out in 1987, they were unaware of the global phenomenon superman will continue to become. (Damn, they didn’t even know after the release of this first game the game was running on a modest level.) Hopefully Capcom will release more behind-the-scenes content like this in the future.

By the way, we noticed that Capcom Town also allows you play this first superman right in your web browser. Good luck if you make it – it’s a tough one.
