10,000 soldiers killed in Ukraine, saying pro-Russian newspaper, then background music
Russia lost nearly 10,000 soldiers in Ukraine War, the website of a pro-Kremlin tabloid claimed in a report. The number was quickly scrapped by the publication in a damage control move, but not before screenshots of it started going viral on the internet.
Pro-government website, Komsomolskaya Pravdaposted a story on Sunday that cited Russian Defense Ministry officials disputing the number of casualties reported by their Ukrainian counterparts.
While Ukrainian officials claim more than 15,000 Russian soldiers were killed in the fighting, the Russian side said 9,861 soldiers were killed in Ukraine, with 16,153 wounded, according to the tabloid.
Based on Daily mail, it is believed to be the work of a pro-Ukrainian employee. Russia officially acknowledged 498 deaths on March 2.
The article, although deleted, was published. has been archived and that version talks about casualty numbers revealed by Russian military officials.
A newer version of the above article Pravda does not carry any silhouettes. It bears a positive account of the Russian advance saying that “two tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, six field guns and mortars, as well as about 60 warriors of a nationalist formation Ukrainian meaning has been destroyed.”
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will soon reach the one-month mark, and so far, Moscow has not been able to capture the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. However, the attack was very heavy with tanks and missiles destroying many Ukrainian cities.
So far, Russia has not confirmed official casualties after March 2. Last week, New York Times reported that 7,000 Russian soldiers were killed, more than the number of American troops in 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
