When you first get acquainted with Knight of Gotham, it can be a counter-intuitive mix of familiar mechanics grafted onto a confusingly mixed system from other games. Have Arkham– engaging melee combat, a LifeThe style progression system and RPG elements can lure you into the false feeling that you’re playing Diablo-alike. Here are some tips for cutting through the clutter and bringing order to the chaos in a city without Batman.
Most character progression is over, so change heroes as often as you like
In Knights of Gotham’ Getting started, you are given the option to start the game with one of the four Bat Family members. You might think that this option will lock you out of the other three vigils, but that’s not the case at all. The game even makes it clear that you are free to switch your character whenever you want by simply returning to the gang base of operations, Bell tower, although it was very quickly polished and only mentioned again in the game’s database From there, behind the investigative bulletin board and to the right of the training equipment, were four suits lined up in open display case. Knight of Gotham it’s totally fine with you making your way in combat. Find some elves doing crimes in the streets of Gotham and smash their skulls by pressing the attack button over and over. Great, no problem. But if you want to deal more damage while quickly filling up your momentum meter (a bar that lets you perform unlockable character-specific combat abilities), then you need to get the perfect attack. But you can only become adept at perfect attacks by practicing perfect dodges, done by dodging at the last possible second before the enemy attack connects to your dome. Do that and you’ll get this satisfying semi-slow-motion dodge that leaves your opponent open for a perfect, high-damage counterattack. Now you can pummel baddies in style.
Complete the Knight Trial Quests as soon as possible
Since Gotham is always in danger, the game will offer countless challenges and quests for you to regularly complete. One of the first films available revolves around Knighthoodship, the prospect of being the vigilante Gotham needs and earning the trust of the city’s residents. That’s great, being Gotham’s protector after Batman’s death, but you’ll want to complete the Knights’ challenges sooner for a completely different reason: unlocking unique transport abilities for each castle Bat Family member. However, it’s a bit tedious. You must complete the Timed Strikes training mission, stop 10 Predestined Crimes, and defeat three minibosses. You also have to take these challenges with each character to complete their Knighthoodship, which means this is the only instance where level progression doesn’t transfer between families.
But completing them and gaining the Knighthoodship will unlock that character’s fast movement method, like Batgirl’s Batman-like Cape Glide or Nightwing’s equivalent, the Mechanical Glider. Now you’ll have more ways than just a grappling hook or a Batcycle to get around Gotham City.
Make the numbers go up
You can only re-craft equipment at The Belfry, so make sure you update your gear before going on patrol. Usually it’s just a matter of creating the blueprint with the highest total capacity. But there are also other wrinkles to watch for, such as the health pack. Different armor sets come with different amounts of healing, so if you’re not good at getting shot, make sure your armor has room for more than a few.
Prioritize equipment with elemental effects
Don’t just pay attention to how big the number is when comparing different melee and ranged weapons. Some also decrease with elemental effects that deal damage over time. Even if these don’t perfectly match the enemy’s weakness, they will still result in more additional damage, which will make the time shorter on tougher enemies.
Don’t forget to dismantle your crumb gear
Garbage old items early and often. You’ll get some resources in return for doing so, and it will make your inventory more manageable.
Unlock Fast Travel Soon
Gotham has a lot to offer, and unless you want to feel like an Uber driver spending the night traveling North and South across the city’s many bridges, you’ll need to unlock fast travel points . After the Blackgate Penitentiary with Harley Quinn, you’ll receive messages from Lucius Fox about new gadgets, including one that will take you from one borough to another in a flash.
However, to unlock each district’s fast-moving point, you’ll need to chase down police drones and disable them. Doing this for each county early on will minimize wasted time on later patrols. It will also be easier if you’ve unlocked Nightwing’s glider or one of the other heroes’ special moves.
Don’t miss the chests
Crime doesn’t pay a price, but shutting it down does. If you defeat a horde of goons while on patrol, chances are there’s a chest with bonus rewards nearby. A smoky fire near where an enemy is is a sure sign, so use your scanner and take a quick look around for some more crafting resources.
Save rare cache for later
Gotham is full of caches of Talon and other rare finds, but since gear balances with your level, unlocking them early yields loot that quickly becomes obsolete. Instead, you’ll want to wait until later in the game to pick up items to ensure you’ll get epic and legendary rewards.
Play online to divide and conquer
Knights of Gotham’ Boss battles and city patrols can be a fun solo but are much easier to tackle with teammates. Plus, fighting will be a lot more fun with other people around. Warner Bros. Montreal has done a lot to make the online multiplayer part of the game untethered but stable, and if you don’t play co-op you won’t really get “full” Knight of Gotham experience. Plus, you can tackle targets spread across the map a lot faster with heightened vigilance when snooping. Best of all, instead of restarting when you die, your partner can resurrect you to keep things moving.
