According to CEO Stefano Domenicali, Formula One could have 30 races a season based on current demand, with one in Las Vegas expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
F1 is experiencing a global spike in interest and unprecedented interest from potential race organizers.
This year there are two races in the US, with the first Miami Grand Prix taking place on May 8, while Las Vegas looks set to have three races in the US. A Vegas race is likely to be confirmed in the weeks leading up to Miami’s first race.
Although the current Concorde Agreement, a commercial deal binding 10 F1 teams to the sport, says a maximum number of races a year is 24, Domenicali said current demand means it could be easily there are more.
Domenicali told Sky Sports: “I think there is potential to turn 24. “I would say there is a possibility of 30! In terms of the interest we see around the world.
“It’s up to us to try to find the right balance in terms of where we want to be in F1, where is the historical value that we need to see on the calendar.”
Africa is the only continent not currently hosting an F1 race but Domenicali could see that changing soon.
“Standing above the US, above China, I think there is a possibility that there will be a presence in Africa soon.
“There’s a lot of interest there. It’s certainly another area that has so far been lacking in our geography.”
