2 policemen killed in terrorist attack in Bandipora district of Kashmir

Two policemen were killed after terrorists opened fire on a police team in the Bandipora district of Kashmir today, officials said.
The incident happened in Bandipora’s Gulshan Chowk this evening, they said, adding that security forces had cordoned off the area and launched an operation to find the attackers.
According to police, two officers were seriously injured and transported to a hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
“Terrorists opened fire on a group of police officers in the Gulshan Chowk area of Bandipora. In this terrorist attack, two police officers, SgCT Mohd Sultan & Ct Fayaz Ahmad, were wounded and martyred. This area destroyed. Details will follow,” Kashmir Regional Police tweeted.

Condemning the attack, former Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on Twitter: “I condemn the rebel attack on the police in the Bandipore area of North Kashmir earlier today which resulted in death while carrying out the execution. duty of police officers J&K Muhammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad. May Allah grant them Jannat and may their families find strength at this time.”
It was the first major terrorist attack in the Valley after a series of targeted attacks targeting migrant workers and members of minority communities in Kashmir. Police said all of the terrorists behind the targeted killings were killed in a series of encounters over the past two months.
